Year 1
Welcome to Year 1.
Our teachers are Mrs Bruton and Mrs Vye.
Our Nursery Rhyme Videos
Our first term has been very busy. We have been learning all about ourselves, so we had a home corner that was a doctors' surgery!
We've tasted crisps, painted self-portraits, used shapes to make printed patterns, made clay face tiles as well as lots of other activities. One of our highlights this term was surveying the adults and children around the school to find out their favourite crisp flavours and turning this into a block graph!!
Our thanks go out to Mrs Quilter, who has been kind enough to cook with us each week. We have had lots of fun making monkey muffins!
Our history work this term has focused on Louis Braille. We have found out about the Braille alphabet and tried to make our own Braille names.
Dr Peach has visited us so we now know how to tell if someone is well or poorly!! We can now practise our skills in our surgery!
Reverend Borgars has also visited us to show us what happens during a Christening. We wore our best clothes and it was a very exciting day as we also had the Harvest Festival in the morning!
We were also fortunate enough to have a gymnastics specialist work with us. We have been working on a dance about a little seed growing and also developing our throwing and catching skills in games.
Our new school councillors have been elected. We really enjoyed the election, so congratulations to Shane and Isabel!!
A polite reminder-please could you all check that all clothes (school jumpers in particular) are clearly named and the ink has not faded. Also please ensure our daps fit properly for outdoor PE sessions.
Our new topic title is 'Toys' and we will be finding out about toys from olden days and exploring how toys work and making our own toys.
