St John's T1 Racing Success!
On Thursday 9th June, 3 teams of Year 6 children from St John's took part in the Regional T1 Racing Competition at Bath University.
The whole of Year 6 has been involved in a DT project with Broadlands School, using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to design a racing car, and 3 teams were chosen to represent the school based on car design, teamwork and their portfolio of work from the project.
They spent the day in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Bath University, racing against 40 other teams from BaNES, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
The teams were:
The Royals - Seb, Freddie, Eleanor and Alessandra
The Lightning Leopards - Robert, Amber, Megan and Harry
Hell on Earth - Alex, Erin, Jack and Rosie
All three teams did exceptionally well and all have progressed through to the National Finals held at the F1 Williams Headquarters on Monday 11th July. The Royals qualified because their car was the 3rd fastest out of the whole competition. The other two teams were not quite as fast, but qualified because of their excellent portfolios.
Well done to everyone involved and special thanks to Mr Thomas and Mrs Lucas who accompanied the teams.
