Eco Bronze Award
St John's awarded Bronze!
The Green Team at St John's is very proud as it feels the school has reached Bronze status in the Eco-School's scheme.
This is what we have done so far:
- The children entered a logo competition to design a logo for the Green Team. The Green team shortlisted 10 and the whole school will be choosing the winning logo. Look for the new logo on the website soon!
- We have created the vegetable garden in the school grounds to encourage children to learn about healthy food, and to make yummy snacks for the school kitchen!
- We held our first 'Recycling week' in May and the children learnt a lot about reducing waste and recycling more. We held a 'zero waste' packed lunch day to see how we could eat without harming the environment.
- Our new school play area is being built in a way that will not harm the environment. We are using local sustainable wood, and all materials are being bought from as close to school as possible. We think the new play area will provide space for wildlife and be a positive contribution to the school's biodiversity.
What are we planning to do next?
The Green Team has been all around the school to look at how we use water, energy, paper and food. It has interviewed Mr Cottrell, teachers, and other people.
The Green Team has made an Action Plan with ideas for making St John's even greener over the next few months. Look out for - more recycling, people to make sure lights and water are being used safely, and other exciting projects!
