Year R

Welcome to Year R

Hello! Welcome to our class page. I am Miss Stenner the Year R class teacher and we have a fantastic full time teaching assistant in Year R, Mrs Haines. Mrs Vye covers my planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time and teaches Year R on Wednesday afternoons where the children are taught PE and music.

We are constantly busy learning new things in Year R. We learn through a mixture of adult directed tasks and child initiated play. Our children have already shown a thirst for learning and thrive when actively exploring their environment.

We are settling well and have been focusing on our social skills. We are building positive relationships, working together as a team as well as being independent enquirers!

In Year R the children absorb information like a sponge. They are using their curiosity daily to become creative thinkers and independent learners!

PE

Our PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays, please ensure your child’s PE bag is in school at all times. You can take their kit home at the end of each term for a wash.

Homework

In Year R the homework focus is reading. Please ensure you read at least three times a week with your child, practise the keyword sets given and practise learning to write the keywords in your child’s blue book. All their home reading jobs are in their book bags.

Year 1

Welcome to the Year 1 class.

Hello. I am Mrs Jefferis and I am the Year 1 teacher. In year 1 we work really hard and learn lots of new and exciting things.

Our week is packed with fun challenges across the curriculum.

So far we have been working hard in our Maths and English lessons learning from different stories and finding out all about place value.

As well as Maths and English, we have already done lots of PE, Art, Music and RE.

On a Monday morning and Thursday afternoon we have PE. Please make sure your child always has a PE kit in school, equipped for the ever changing weather.

Reading folders need to be in school so that children can be heard read as well as books changed. Please feel free to pop into the classroom after school and change your child’s reading books if this hasn't managed to be done in the week.

Children have their spelling tests on a Wednesday so please make sure that their spelling folder stays in their book bags to ensure spelling tests and new spellings can be filed away and not misplaced.

Throughout the week, Year 1 are supported by adult helpers. On a Monday we have Mrs Shearing and Mrs Rhys Jones and throughout the rest of the week Mrs Luker will be in class.

If you have any questions that need answering then I am always around before and after school so please feel free to pop in and see me, otherwise I am happy to book a meeting with you to discuss anything in depth.

Mrs Jefferis
